Asheville Entrepreneurs Give Back!
The Asheville Entrepreneur (The AE) group kicked off Healthy Food for Manna this Earth Day!
The AE’s pay $5 or bring healthy food to attend their monthly networking lunch. The day after the meetings the money is spent at Greenlife Grocery buying healthy food to donate to the Manna Food Bank here in Asheville. Below are some pictures from the first donation round! You’ll notice mostly baby food with the exception of Babe’s favorite grown up cereal. Two of my very close friends in other states just had baby’s so I was feeling the baby isle.
The idea for Healthy Food for Manna came after watching a TV special with Dianne Sawyer on the poverty in the Appalachian Mountains. The one thing I can’t imagine is not having enough food to eat or provide for my family. I wanted to donate to the food bank but I also wanted to step it up a notch. Unfortunately lower income usually means much lower quality of food. When you are struggling as is, eating things loaded with high fructose corn syrups, preservatives, artificial flavors and food dyes is certainly not going to help the situation. A diet overly saturated with the above is only going to cause unaffordable health problems and lack of energy. I love these mountains that I now call home and I want to do what I can to help the people who live here.
The AE’s meet once a month for a casual networking lunch at local independent restaurant. The Earth Day lunch on April 22, 2009 was held at Picnic’s on Merrimon. Picnics has delicious home cooked meals and deserts using only the finest ingredients.
